About Hidden Door House
Hidden Door House is a space to create, contemplate and gather in community. We offer guided individual and small-group retreats and writing workshops, as well as private stays and group events.
Located in the tiny town of Freedom (population 700), in the heart of Midcoast Maine, the property consists of a lovingly restored 1850s farmhouse, barn and gardens on 20 acres of rolling hills, gardens, pond and forests.
We’re a writer and a documentary filmmaker with a love of design, nature, creating sacred spaces, and the magic of Maine. We chose this special place for its idyllic charm and classic farmhouse features—and also as a way to honor Freedom and all that the word represents to us. We view the creative life—and returning to nature and its cyclical rhythms—as powerful pathways to personal and collective liberation. These values are infused into our intentions for the space and into the design of the home, barn, guest cabins and gardens.
So… where is the hidden door? You’ll just have to come visit us to find out.
